WHO & UNICEF Request Assistance to Promote Child Injury Prevention

The World Health Organization (WHO) and United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) is conducting a worldwide environmental scan to identify educational resources to engage and educate children about injury prevention and safety promotion.

The CDC Injury Center has been asked by WHO and UNICEF to assist in conducting the environmental scan and development of these resources, all of which will lead to the creation of a child-friendly version of the upcoming World Report on Child Injury Prevention.

New BRFSS Data Available for Chronic Disease and the Environment

The CDC’s Behavioral Surveillance Branch in the Division of Adult and Community Health announces the release of the 2004 and 2005 BRFSS data on Chronic Disease and the Environment.

The online Chronic Disease and the Environment datasets combine BRFSS data with environmental information available from other sources such as the EPA, the United States Geological Survey, and state and local monitoring networks to compare measures of environmental quality and chronic disease.

NCHS Extends Comment Period for Military Operations External Cause Codes

NCHS has extended the comment period for the activitiy status and external cause codes of military operations (excluding overexertion and stress fractures) to June 20, 2008.  Proposals will be brought to the September 2008 ICD-9-CM Coordination and Committee Meeting for further review and discussion, and are being considered for implementation as of October 1, 2009.

CDC Publishes Article on Infant Injuries Treated in ERs
